Every city has its trademark speciality, like the chaats of Mumbai, Bhel , the tongue tickling chaat snack from Amchi Mumbai . the . Bhel has found some similar looking but with slight variations like the dry bhel minus the various liquids drenched on the murmura in Mumbai, each imparting an irresistible flavour, the sweet, tangy, spicy all coming together in one plate. Jhaal muri is something similar to our Bhel .
There are numerous recipes for Jhaal Muri, a delicious Bengali (east Indian) snack. It can be assembled together in a few minutes and makes a great tasty evening snack. .
2 cups of Kurmura/ Murmura (puffed rice) -
1 small onion chopped
4-5 tbsps Sev
1/4 cup sprouted black gram boiled
1 small cucumber , chopped.
1 small tomato chopped
2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves.
2 tbsp mustard oil taken from pickle.
2-3 tbsps roasted peanuts
1 tbsp Kolkata Jhaal mudi masala mix
2 tbsps fine;ly sliced coconut pieces
1 tbsp finely chopped green chillis
In a large bowl combine everything, toss well, add coconut slices, serve immediately .
Ingredients to make the special Kolkata Jhaal mudi masala mix usually made by street vendors.

1/8 cup dry mango powder
1/8 cup red chilli powder
10 bay leaves
1/4 cup cumin seeds
1/4 cup coriander seeds
1/8 cup rock salt/kala namak
1/8 cup white pepper
Roast all ingredients taking care not to burn., until browned well. Roast on low heat.
Combine all the roasted ingredients and blend into a fine powder. Store well in airtight container and use.
