Wheat rava or samba rava as it is also called are a great way to use for making filling upma and replace fine white sooji or semolina.
There are many ways to use this wheat rava, by mixing with vegetables of your choice, you can make an excellent filing lunch.
Here I have given a recipe for a very simple upma, you can make the necessary changes by adding more vegges of your choice,
1 1/2 cups broken wheat , samba rava
1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 tsp peanuts
salt to taste.
1/2 stp split udad dal
1 tbsp ginger minced
1 tbsp chopped cilantro
1 tbsp chopped green chillis
Pinch of asafoetida powder
Curry leaves for garnish
2 tbsp oil or ghee
3 1/4 cups water
In a heavy pan first roast the wheat brokens to a golden aromatic texture.
Keep it aside.
In another pan add the oil/ghee, pop the mustard seeds, brown the split udad dal, add the ginger, green chillis, chopped tomatoes, curry leaves, salt and pinch of asafoetida powder.
Then add the water and allow it to boil well.
When the water comes to a good boil, lower the flame and add the wheat rava slowly with one hand while stirring with the other, now the rava needs ore time to cook, so keep a lid on the pan, reduce the flame to very low and wait for 3 minutes approximately.
You will see the whet rava haas cooked well, come together to a thick smooth mass, gently stir with a spatula, mix well.
Serve hot with curd, raita, or pickle.
