This is a very simple recipe and as there are some requests for the post am adding to the chutney collection.
Idlis/dosas and even Pongal needs some chutney with or without using coconut.
How ever a simple chutney does taste very good and can be prepared once in a while.
Make sure to use good fresh coconut or frozen .
Coconut chutney for Idlis and dosa
1 cup grated fresh coconut
2 small green chillis
2 tbsp gram dal ( fried gram/potukadalai)
salt to taste
Pinch of asafoetida
3 tbsp Chopped coriander leaves
A small bit of ginger
Grind all the above in a mixer with little water. Add salt as per requirement. Keep the consistency a little thick or use buttermilk to thin it .
Pour a seasoning of mustard seeds crackled in hot oil with a dry red chilli over the ground chutney.
The chutney tastes good even without seasoning.
