Methi Theplas

This is a very popular tasty Gujarati flatbread made of wholewheat flour and fresh fenugreek leaves with other exciting spices to make this a very anytime kind of snack.

I practically grew up on this as some years of my childhood were spent in Rajkot and we had so many Gujju dishes in our daily menu.My mother never tired of making theplas everyday and those days I remember having this more than biscuits which was a rare treat for us. Our lunch boxes would have theplas and parathas every other day and the accompaniments like chundo, gorkeri and limdo achaar ,boondhi raita, jeera rice, dhoklas, khammam are some of the tastiest foods we lived on.

This is a popular anytime snack with both kids and adults alike and an excellent travel food to carry with pickles.

WholeWheat flour
2 cups
Methi /fenugreek leaves
3/4 cup cleaned and chopped finely
chilli powder,cumin powder,coriander powder
2 tsp
Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp
Besan (optional)
1/2 cup
Salt
to taste
Oil
3-4 tbsps
Butter milk/curd enough to bind the dough
1 or 2 tbsp

Make the dough as for chapatis but with little water or butter milk as the fenugreek leaves have little water in them. Make a nice smooth dough and cover and keep aside for 30 minutes.

Roll out like chapati circles and cook them on flat pans with little oil on both sides.keep them stacked and cover them. to prevent drying.
Ghee may be applied if desired.

serve with chundo, gorkeri, lime pickles or raita.
Whichever way Theplas taste great just by itself.
